When has the government done anything fair? It's not the bill itself, it's how poorly written it was. The same thing happened on a bit of Florida registration. Bestiality was being outlawed, but the bill was so badly written that it outlawed sex all together, and had to be fixed.

I'm guessing they don't know the seriousness of the situation, and how bad this is infringing our rights. Then again, they're not thinking about us; they're thinking about hollywood and the media industry. Which is funny, because they RELY on internet for advertising. Which means, websites such as facebook, tumblr, youtube, google, this forum and podcast will be forced to shut down or face legal consequences. Might as well go soviet now.

I've got friends that are legitimately infuriated that people are making such a big deal out of this, claiming that this isn't the first time internet piracy laws have tried to push through and it won't be the last so there's no use in bothering with petitions or contacting your congressmen. I disagree. It's extremely important that we fight back against this kind of legislation. There is no room for apathy when it comes down to the government going to such extreme methods to try and censor us, especially when it may lead to thousands of people who work through the internet losing their jobs, all to appease Hollywood.

If this law went through, WMR wouldn't stand a chance. All the copyrighted material that plays on the show—music and news clips in particular—would be its undoing. I know the forum of an offensive comedy show may not be the best place to write a five page essay on the importance of involvement when it comes to fighting back against attempts at creating laws that could have potentially disastrous results but it's people like us that would be most affected by this sort of thing. My first thought is the amount of people on this forum alone who create music and host it on places like soundcloud, which I imagine would be one of the first tumbling to its knees if a bill such as this one went through because people frequently use it to create mash-ups and other things that contain copyrighted materials. If you're not one of them, you probably like YouTube, which would end up being nothing but a shell of its former self if it survived at all. It's important that we care about things to prevent this sort of shit from happening.

It's apparently being covered today and I, for one, am pissing my pants because the Net Neutrality opposition only got knocked back by a very close vote.

Yeah, I can't imagine they will go through with this. So many people would be extremely angry. It would be chaos.

They're not thinking about us, you have to remember that. They're thinking about the big industries that feel like their rights are being infringed on. Chaos? No big deal to the government. Even if it is going against freedom of speech. Isn't it saying something that the only other countries that have such a thing like this are China, Iran, and Syria?

The shining light is that Obama doesn't support this kind of thing.
