I'm just pissed that Stephanie Meyer altered the genre forever. Of course, there's always going to be vampire purists hanging around that believe vampires should be monsters at their core, but they are obviously not the majority. Twilight is going to change the genre drastically because of its insane popularity. I'm starting to wonder if it's ruined the chances of any young writers hoping that true-blue bloodsuckers would help them get their foot in the door of the horror lit. industry.
This fucking terrifies me. I don't want to have wasted four years of my time creating and perfecting my take on the genre just to have it compared to Twilight.

Speaking of vampires, the trailer for Daybreakers seems pretty awesome. Definitely going to see that. I don't think it will be amazing, but I definitely think it will be a nice flick to see in the theatres. Now that I think of it, I haven't ever seen a vampire movie that I truly enjoyed. Underworld was alright, but it was never that great. Also, on the topic of films, anyone suggest any good zombie films that have been made in the past decade? I've seen 28 Days (and weeks) Later, Dawn of the Dead, Shawn of the Dead, Resident Evil, etc etc, but I really cannot find many more that are worthwhile to see. Suggestions?

Don't worry, there will still be good monstrous vampire books around there. I don't think you'll ever be able to stamp them out. Plus, there's a saying that goes "The stronger the light, the blacker the shadow." With Twilight's insane popularity, that only means that there's just as many calling bullshit on it. As Twilighters grow, so do anti-Twilighters, so I think we can expect more anti-Twilight-eque vampire stories in the near future, starting with The Strain

mm mm, no, Bram Stoker started the whole vampire thing, sure different cultures have their own versions of vampires but Dracula was the first book to bring up the popular image of them. As for myself, I think the vampire shit should stop period, it's dumb.

Going back to an earlier post, Lexi mentioned Hellboy. I watched the sequel last night and honestly, it was just stupid. I'm not saying that the first one was serious, but it just like all the charm from the first movie was thrown out the window in favour of attrating 10 year olds.
Also, what was the deal with the fucking Troll city thing?

Gary Oldman wins as Dracula though... but then again Gary Oldman wins at everything.

Hey, Rip. Fuck you. lrn2vampirehistory. Prove me wrong, I dare you. By the way Van Helsing was pretty meh but Underworld was fantastic. That movie was the hottest Kate Beckinsale's ever looked ever.

The charismatic and sophisticated vampire of modern fiction was born in 1819 with the publication of The Vampyre by John Polidori; the story was highly successful and arguably the most influential vampire work of the early 19th century. However, it is Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula that is remembered as the quintessential vampire novel and provided the basis of the modern vampire legend. 2 minutes is all it took. I didn't even have to go past the introduction. Bolding mine.

Anyway, as long as reverse psychology's working, I think some asshole probably just edited that and made the other book up, I bet nobody can show me the details of how vampires worked in that book.

It's almost like Riposte wants to be proved wrong.
